Naoko Komori is an Artist, Illustrator, Teacher, and former PS 41 Parent. She was born in Japan, spent her childhood in England. Naoko studied Art and Design at the University of the Arts, London, and studied Illustration at SVA in New York City.
Much of Naoko's childhood were spent in England, Germany, and eventually back to Japan to attend High School. As a child, Naoko was constantly drawing, and used art as her most important form of expression. She always kept journals of her travels, and illustrated her way through the constant motion of a family that lived in different parts of the world. The illustrative style of Japanese Manga was always evident in her work, though she added to her repertoire the influence from Western Art and Culture.
The Kawaii Art Classes began in 2015 at the request of a fellow PS41 mother who wanted her daughter to learn to draw. Other local parents heard about the class, and Naoko's curriculum grew, adding more students to her weekly program.
Naoko teaches the classes in her Home/Studio Loft in the West Village, offering group and private classes that work around the NYC Public School schedules.
The Kawaii Artist Classes could not exist without the inspiration and support from her daughter, Sakura, and her lovable Dachshund, Kuro and Coco.
